LINCOLN PARK STUDIO STUDY
This study examines a studio unit in one of the iconic Mies van der Rohe residential high-rises in Lincoln Park, Chicago. The sustainable and economic benefits of refurbishing this common urban typology has become increasingly attractive for people resolved to own less and live small, and for those who prioritize value and quality over quantity. These design options explore highly tailored storage and kitchen configurations that allow the remaining space to be open and flexible. A reduced material palette and fully integrated appliances—which are properly scaled for a studio—make the space feel larger by reducing visual clutter. Meticulous consideration of everything is essential to small footprint living in order to maximize use of every square inch.
