ozark house
Located in the wooded foothills of the Ozark Mountains, the particular shape and topography of this site present both a challenge and guidance for the design of this new, single-family residence. The plan and massing create a private, exterior courtyard that opens to the valley below and provides a generous outdoor expansion of the main living level. The design carefully responds to the existing sloped site with cut and fill to reduce disturbance and foundation expense: the garage and primary bedroom suite align with the higher street level, while the main entry and remaining program spaces are dropped down to the lower level, providing access to the existing grade beyond. Maintaining a connection with the rolling landscape drives the design throughout the project, resulting in a quiet composition of form and material against the tranquil backdrop.
